The following verses should bring us some peace.
Romans 13:1 tells us that “. . . there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”
Psalm 115:3 tells us that “Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.”
Proverbs 16:9 should remind those who aspire to positions of leadership that they are only there because God allowed it: “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
Finally, as we look ahead to what the next four years might bring, Paul reminds us of what our approach should be in Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Let’s not fret or fear as the future unfolds, but instead trust in the sovereign God.
