Sound familiar? Look familiar?
Watch any news account. Read any newspaper. Just sit in your local mall and listen and watch. You won’t be surprised.
Though there are multiple sources I could cite, let me just sum up just a few of the social trends:
Narcissism is on the rise.
The desire for financial well-being is increasing in job priorities. (In other words, pay is becoming the most important factor.)
Family estrangement is rising (with the primary contributing factors being abuse, neglect, and betrayal). Currently about 27% of adults are estranged from a family member.
Violence of every kind (homicide, war, organized crime, conflict-related deaths) is up.
One source cited social media as one of the main culprits for the rise in many of these areas. But while there are many causes, there is only one sure answer. God.
A life lived for oneself, and run by oneself, is destined to be self-destructive.
But lives submitted to God flourish, and this has always been the answer as the two attached songs will attest. The first was written in 1874 by Frances R. Havergal and the second in 2025 by Jeremy Camp.
Again, as the attributes in 2 Timothy reveal, living for oneself leads to hell on earth.
