We had quite a discussion about Hannah’s plight and how she must have felt about giving up her son, but what was becoming clear to all of us was how seriously God takes promises. In fact, in that culture, the husband could annul his wife’s vow if he wanted to (Numbers 30). Then in Deuteronomy 23:21-23 we read that God demands that you fulfill the promise you made and to not fulfill it is sin. In fact, Ecclesiastes 5:4-7 it says “It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.”
Which makes it all the more unfathomable when we read in 1 Corinthians 1:9 that “God is ever true to His promises.” And how many promises are there? How many has God made? One source says that there are 7,487 promises that God has made to humankind. That’s 7,487 promises and God will keep every single one of them.
Crosslake Log Church has a PDF of 365 of these promises that you can print and thereby read and claim one of God’s promises to us each day. (Crosslake Promises PDF)
They, in turn, reprinted them with permission from www.365promises.com. This site has a devotion that goes with each promise.
Promises such as:
I am the Lord your God and I never change. Malachi 3:6
If you search for Me with all your heart, you will find me. Jeremiah 29:13
I have blotted out your sins and dissolved them like the mist. Isaiah 44:22
In a world that finds it very easy to make promises and very hard to keep them, we should find peace in the truth that God is forever faithful in His promises to us.
