If you are looking for colors, you can’t beat springtime. And if anyone needs evidence of God’s imagination and creativity, they need look no further than spring.
I have read that the human eye can detect over ten million colors, around a thousand light-dark levels, 100 red-green levels, and 100 yellow-blue levels. Amazing.
But what is more amazing is that science has also determined that since light consists of wavelengths, there is actually an infinite number of colors possible. Seems right in character for an infinite God.
God’s third act of creation was vegetation . . . and He declared it good. (Genesis 1:12)
And we know that He is good just by looking at that vegetation. We also know that he is God by what He created.
“. . . what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:19-20)
I have read about heaven and the streets of gold, the sapphires, rubies, emeralds and pearls. But if I am overwhelmed by the number of colors that my earthly eyes are able to detect and how much joy they bring me, I can’t begin to imagine the infinite colors I will experience in heaven.
In the meantime, I am going to soak up every bit of spring: the mild sunshine, the cool breezes, and, of course, the amazing colors. I hope you do too.
